Drying washing indoors puts litres of water into the air, and in a cold UK home that moisture ends up as condensation on windows and, eventually, black mould on walls. A dehumidifier with a laundry mode tackles both problems at once: it pulls the water out of the air so clothes dry faster, and it keeps your rooms drier. Many people find it a cheaper way to dry clothes than a tumble dryer.
To find the best dehumidifiers for drying clothes in the UK, we looked at Amazon.co.uk's results for laundry dehumidifiers, skipped sponsored listings, and shortlisted popular compressor models from Pro Breeze, Honeywell, Devola, NETTA, COMFEE' and others. We read each live product page for extraction rate, tank size, noise and modes. Running-cost and award claims are quoted as the sellers state them.

Buying Guide: How to Choose a Dehumidifier
How many litres per day?
Extraction rates are measured in warm, humid lab conditions, so real-world figures in a cool UK home are lower. For a bedroom or small flat, 10 to 12 litres a day is plenty. For a family home, a laundry-heavy household or a damp basement, look at 20 litres or more.
Compressor or desiccant?
All of our picks are compressor (refrigerant) dehumidifiers, which are efficient in normal room temperatures. They can struggle in very cold rooms. If you're drying clothes in a cold garage, check the lowest operating temperature (Devola says above 5°C, AEOCKY says down to 10°C).
Laundry mode
A laundry mode runs the fan harder to move air over damp clothes. Put the dehumidifier close to your airer in a small room with the door shut. It pairs well with a heated clothes airer.
Tank size and drainage
Small tanks (1.5 to 2 litres) fill quickly when you're drying washing. Look for a larger tank, such as Pro Breeze's 5.5 litres, or use the drain hose to run water straight into a sink or drain.
Noise and running cost
Check the dB figure if it will run in a bedroom. Running costs depend on wattage: multiply kW by your unit rate. The pence-per-hour figures in listings are the sellers' estimates.
Dealing with existing mould
A dehumidifier stops new mould forming, but it won't remove black mould that's already there. Clean it off first with a suitable product. See our guide to the best black mould removers.

FAQ
What is the best dehumidifier for drying clothes in the UK?
For most homes, the Pro Breeze 12L/Day dehumidifier. It has a very large review base on Amazon.co.uk, a humidity sensor, a 24-hour timer and quiet running. If you dry a lot of washing, the OmniDry 12L adds a laundry focus, and the 20L models suit bigger homes.
Is it cheaper to dry clothes with a dehumidifier than a tumble dryer?
Usually, yes. Many compressor dehumidifiers draw 120 to 200 W, compared with well over 1,000 W for many tumble dryers. Drying takes longer, but costs less per hour. Check the wattage on the listing and your tariff.
What size dehumidifier do I need?
A 10 to 12 litre model suits most bedrooms, flats and small houses. Choose 20 litres or more for a large family home, a very damp property, or if you dry laundry every day.
Will a dehumidifier get rid of black mould?
It helps prevent mould by lowering humidity, but it won't remove mould that's already growing. Clean existing mould with a mould remover first, then use the dehumidifier to keep humidity down.
Where should I put a dehumidifier to dry clothes?
Put it in the same room as your airer, ideally a small room with the door closed, with clear space around the air vents. Point the air flow towards the laundry if you can.
What humidity should I set?
Many people aim for around 50%. Most of our picks let you set a target, and they switch off when they reach it, which saves energy.
